"together" + "sensation" = realization

The Synesthetic Periodic Table is an application designed with the intention to relearn the chemical elements in an unconventional and creative manner. Moving away from the traditionally classified system of the periodic table, these synesthetic approaches are used as narrative devices to reveal the physical, the textural, and the socio-historical properties of the elements.

Synesthesia is the idiosyncratic crossover between our perception of two or more of the senses. This project allows users to explore the forms of learned synesthesia through visual classification, oral storytelling and music visualization.

Grapheme Colour Synesthesia : When a system of letters, symbols and numbers are seen in a specific colour.

Preordinal Linguistic Synesthesia: A classified system of letters, symbols and numbers are seen as having a personality and/or gender.

Lexical-Gustatory Synesthesia: When words, colours, images & emotions trigger involuntary experiences of taste and smell.

Chromesthesia: When sounds involuntarily evoke colour and images.

Synesthetic brains are wired with involuntary interruptions of one modal correspondence interfering with another. However, for a non-synesthete principles can be absorbed through memory. As a result, users can adopt new forms of knowledge and connect with the subject matter through means of unrealized associations, and a creative fusion of the senses.
